Overview
Fabrics, for our creative duo Barbieri Magalini, are not mere materials, but genuine expressive codes that define the aesthetic identity of projects. Their passion for fabrics is indeed a true calling, as well as a key lens through which to interpret their work.
Their creative conception always begins with the atmosphere they wish to recreate: entering a space, reclining on a sofa, or leafing through a catalogue. Fabrics—or materials, broadening the perspective—play a fundamental role in constructing this experience, which is deeply sensorial as it directly engages 4 of the 5 senses (primarily sight and touch, but also hearing and smell).
An evocative aspect of fabric that fascinates them is its power to connect the 3 worlds dearest to them: furniture (furnishings and interiors), fashion (also a personal passion, which has culminated in a collection of jumpsuits and kimonos), and food (art de la table).

Sitia
Expanding the discourse to the operational sphere, as we at MM Company oversee the creative direction of brands and projects within furniture, fashion, and interior design, fabrics are an essential part of our work, and represent a point of contact with many of the activities we curate for our clients: product design, interior & exhibition design projects, fabric selection for photographic services, videos, and renders.

For us, choosing a fabric is never an isolated activity: it always implies a dialogue of textures, colours, volumes, effects, saturations, tactile sensations. The result must always be dynamic and unexpected, also thanks to elements of imperfection and contrast that render the final outcome original through what is, for us, the key element: texture, whether material and/or visual. And it is precisely here that the aesthetic taste of Barbieri Magalini takes root, characterised by research, eclecticism, imperfection, and contrasts.
Design through fabric is, above all, visual inspiration. It derives from art (garments in portraits, drapery in frescoes in villas of delight), from travel (colour palettes and combinations from specific places such as Moroccan ironwork or Japanese desaturated tones or vivid Brazilian hues), from food (chromatic harmonies of ingredients, textures and consistencies of cuisine). Through fabrics, we can proceed with applications at various scales: from macroscopic, in the case of interior design, to microscopic when we consider products or detail photography. Such work involves collaborative effort, requiring synergistic collaboration with our clients, characterised by empathy, experimentation, craftsmanship, and prototyping.
In our work, we collaborate with various textile authors:
Reda, for whom we have created communication campaigns.
Lyria, with the curation of photographic services and art direction of graphic materials.
Dedar, with whom we create capsules of special products for Sitia.
Liberty London, with whom textile accessories for fashion and home are created for the brand Telerie Spadari Milano.
Trilogy, which created the curtains for our SPAZIO MM in Milan.
