Madame de l’Argenterie: a metaphor for Barbieri Magalini’s creative vision

ABOUT

Entering Casa Caleido, the home-manifesto of the creative duo Barbieri Magalini — founders of the creative consultancy agency MM Company and the editorial project Caleido Diary — visitors are welcomed by the portrait of Madame de l’Argenterie: their imaginary housekeeper. This character takes shape on the walls of the dining room, the vibrant heart of the home as a symbol of their convivial and humanist spirit. For them, Madame de l’Argenterie is not merely a painting, but a metaphor for their creative vision: one made of imaginative visions and narratives capable of connecting people, places and objects.

In her role as housekeeper, Madame de l’Argenterie also acts as the overseer of their eclecticism: a subtle balance guided by the principle of “Be yourself, but not too much”. It is a combination of elements with strong imaginative power — eclectic, yet never excessive or loud. Much like setting a table or, returning to their work as creative directors, developing an interior or exhibition design project, or a photo shoot: a composition of special and unexpected elements, brought together in harmony with sophistication and practicality.

Madame de l’Argenterie, like any respectable housekeeper, also supervises the duo’s other convivial projects beyond Casa Caleido, such as the pop-up installation “Frames of reality” during Milan Design Week 2026. The painting, temporarily relocated, served as the narrative thread of this domestic setting — staging a temporary home suspended between order and imperfection, imagining a fraction of a second captured in time — where convivial events and talks took place.

Beyond helping define the spirit of places, the convivial and humanist spirit of the creative duo Barbieri Magalini also translates into an “open” approach to hosting dinners, meetings, events and symposia, fostering dialogue around the culture of design and creativity.
